Public Relations Tips
Media Relations ~ Still a coveted niche of PR…at the end of the day, it’s what every client wants.

To garner publicity for your client or organization, a brand or a service, here are some Media Relations tips:

~ Prepare a News Release or a Backgrounder that is ready to Email as soon as you get in touch with your media targets by phone or email.  He who hesitates has lost a window of opportunity.

~ Take a variety of digital photos and attach one or two to the news release or backgrounder.  Media must have 300 dpi.  If they aren’t quality they can use, at least this may encourage them to send a photographer.

~ If you don’t know photo composition, study good photographs in top magazines and newspapers and copy the style of shooting close-ups and cropping, two critical elements of photos showcased in print or on the web.

~ Even in this 2.0 Web World, sending news releases to select media targets is still important, but you can cover more bases (and individual consumers) by getting your news releases on the web so search engines will pick it up.

~ Persistence pays.  “No” from an editor often means just “not today.”  Keep in touch with different angles and perhaps by responding to their Face Book or Twitter input.  I often post links of articles by media I’m pursuing.  It tells them I am really reading their stuff!

S- u- m- m- e-r - a slower news season traditionally -  is a good time to keep looking back at your email “Sents” and re-send with another note if you haven’t heard from that key media.
